  • Visitor Management System (VMS)

As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools' focus on safety, our school is now using a visitor management system. This system, which requires visitors to be "buzzed" into the school, is intended to enhance the safety and security for both our students and staff by establishing greater door control. At our school, we have a number of entrances where you will find cameras and keypads that are part of the new system. With safety in mind, we want to share with you how the visitor management system works.

    1. During normal arrival and dismissal times, main entrances are open to allow students to enter and leave the school.
    2. Once the school day begins, doors will be locked. Visitors will need to press the bell button on the visitor management system panel and an office staff member will assist them.
    3. We continue to ask visitors to our school to use the main entrance. Upon entering the school, they should follow our normal visitor procedure by signing in to receive a visitor's badge.
    4. When visitors are ready to leave, they should exit the school building through the main entrance and officially check out.

As you know, Parkview is unique in that we have multiple buildings on our campus. As such, we have more doors than many schools - doors that students use to move between buildings during the day. As part of our updated safety measures, we will be adding the new visitor management system to entrances beyond our main entrance.

What does this mean for Parkview students and staff? These doors will be open during class change and for a minute after the tardy bell. However, they then will be locked and students and staff will have to use the buzzer to gain entrance. This will allow us to better monitor and manage who is entering and leaving the school. While we always ask students to move between classes in a timely manner, this will be even more important moving forward.

The visitor management system has been implemented successfully at other Gwinnett schools and the addition of it to our campus will have a positive impact on our campus safety efforts. Thank you for your continued support and for working with us to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

  • Flu Season Advice

Dear GCPS Parents/Guardians and Staff Members,

The 2018-19 flu season has begun and Georgia is experiencing higher levels of flu than anticipated for this time of year. Experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend an annual flu vaccine as the first and best way to protect against influenza. And, although the flu shot can't prevent every case of flu, it can protect you from more severe illness. It’s not too late to get a flu shot; so consider getting a shot for yourself and your family members, especially those with asthma and other chronic illnesses. Health officials encourage families to take precautions to limit the spread of illness, including washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home and keeping ill children home when flu-like and other cold symptoms appear.

If your child has flu-like symptoms, please contact your physician or health clinic for recommendations. The flu may last 7-10 days. If your child has a fever, they must be kept home. They must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication prior to returning to school. Please refer to this Healthy Habits link for tips on flu prevention. If you have questions about the flu or flu prevention, you may also contact the Gwinnett County Health Department at 770-339-4260.

We appreciate your efforts in helping us keep our students and staff well and healthy!
