CS Education Week
What is CSEdWeek?
CSEdWeek is an annual call to action to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science (CS), advocate for equity, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field. This year’s CSEdWeek theme is “Looking Back, Leaping Forward.”
Why should we celebrate CSEdWeek?
- Create excitement and interest around CS
- Expose students to CS opportunities who may not be taking CS courses
- Promote CS opportunities in your community
- Foster computational thinking & creativity skills
- Spark student interest in career opportunities
Schools may celebrate by:
- Hosting a school-wide competition or Makeathon
- Creating a CS awareness campaign
- Hosting an Hour of Code event
- Hosting a family or community CS event
- Learning about CS Heroes
Want to celebrate at home? Check out these resources!
- Get hands-on with CS “unplugged” activities: Give kids a break from technology while still teaching exciting and engaging CS skills.
- Engage in the Hour of Code (HoC): The Hour of Code encourages students to engage in small coding activities to build excitement and skills for CS. There are many different HoC resources and activities!
- Develop AI Literacy: AI literacy is an important part of future readiness!. Check out GCPS Guidance for Human-Centered AI Use and the lessons below to learn more.
