A child must be 4 years old on or before September 1. 

An official document showing proof of birth date. Examples include an original birth certificate or birth registration, an official state or federal form with date of birth, or passport. Parents can order a birth certificate for a child born in Georgia through the state’s ROVER service for a fee: https://services.georgia.gov/gta/rover/

The school requires proof of residency, which may be verified by presenting a current utility bill (excluding gas and telephone bills) AND one of the following documents: a non-contingent sales contract, current lease/rental agreement, current residential property tax statement or bill, current warranty or quitclaim deed, current home purchase agreement, or current homeowner’s insurance policy. Documents presented for residency verification must include the same address as the accompanying utility bill. An exception: A deed without an address is acceptable if accompanied by two utility bills (excluding gas and telephone bills) with same address in the attendance zone. A contingency contract is not acceptable. If you live with a friend or family member and need information about verifying your residency, call your local school.

State law requires that schools ask for this number at the time of enrollment. However, your child will be enrolled, even if the number is not provided under state law (O.C.G.A.20-2-150).

GCPS’ free Pre-K Program operates just like a school classroom and it is a full-day program. Parents commit to sending their child to school for the complete 6.5 hours a day for 180 days per school year. You can view the calendar for the upcoming school year here.

Yes, just like any other grade level in school, attendance in Pre-K is important to help children develop good attendance habits and be successful in school. If a child in the program is routinely absent or late, the school will meet with the family to discuss options.

Yes. If your child is selected to attend the free Pre-K program at one of GCPS’ elementary schools and you select to attend, you can cancel your registration in the other program.

Families of students selected in the lottery must complete enrollment with the local school by the deadline. Families will need to go to the school to complete the registration process. As part of the process, they will need the following:  an official document showing proof of birth date; proof that they live in the attendance zone;  evidence of vision, hearing, dental, and nutrition screenings obtained in the past year (a current Georgia Form #3300-Rev. 2013); a valid Certificate of Immunization (Georgia Form #3231); the child’s social security number (or sign a waiver at the school) under state law (O.C.G.A.20-2-150); and proof of authorized adult to enroll the child and a photo ID for that person. Proof of residency in the attendance zone will be required at registration, including a current utility bill (excluding phone bills) and another document (lease, tax return, paycheck stub, etc.) with the same address.

If your child's name is selected in the lottery for a Pre-K class, you will receive Pre-K registration information after the Pre-K lottery drawing. Families will have two weeks to complete the verification process and accept their child’s position in the Pre-K Program. If the family does not complete this process by the deadline, their child’s spot will be given to a student on the waitlist.
