The International Newcomer Center
The International Newcomer Center (INC) is the first point of contact in Gwinnett County Public Schools for our newly arriving international families with middle and high school students, as well as the source for language services for the school district. Our mission at the INC is to provide services and support for our students, families, and schools that inspire high levels of learning and engagement.
The International Newcomer Center has three programs- International Student Services, Language Services, and Parent Outreach.
The international student services program welcomes international transfer students age-appropriate for grades 6-12. International student advisors collect educational background information from families and conduct assessments in English and math to evaluate proficiency. Based on these evaluations and family information, advisors determine appropriate grade placement and course recommendation. For high school students, the international student advisors evaluate their course history and transfer credits.
The language services program, provides interpretation services for district and local school meetings, conferences, and hearings. Our team of trained interpreters is dedicated to facilitating effective communication within educational environments. Our team works with schools to ensure that multilingual families have equal access to educational opportunities and resources, regardless of their linguistic background. Our translation service team collaborates with district staff to ensure that GCPS documents are accessible to all members of our diverse community.
The parent outreach program focuses on engagement of international newcomer families. They offer family literacy classes (English classes), as well as workshops on navigating and getting to know the Gwinnett County Public Schools system.
