Music Overview
GCPS students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of music classes from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Students may participate in performing ensembles, like band, chorus, orchestra, or guitar, and have the opportunity to create music in innovative ways through music technology courses.
GCPS Music By The Numbers
- Elementary students in all 81 elementary schools receive instruction in general music from a music specialist. This means that nearly 78,000 elementary students participate in elementary music education courses
- 53% of GCPS middle school students participate in music classes which is nearly 30,000 students
- High school music courses serve 17,000 students - which equates to nearly 20% of GCPS high school students
- Middle school and high school music students enjoyed 4,383 performances during the 2023-2024 school year
