- Parents participated in fun and engaging evening events to support student learning which included Literacy Night, Math Night, and International Night. Students participated in Career Day and learned about various occupations/professions to enhance their future readiness skills.
- We hosted an International Night Food Fair serving dishes from all over the world, made and donated by our school’s families.
- One of our 5th grade students ranked among the top 20 spellers in the county and represented our school at the GCPS District Spelling Bee.
- We held our first Night of the Arts event with students performing dances, presenting the play “The Wizard of Oz” and student artwork being displayed throughout the building.
- Alford’s teachers have been selected to facilitate County Level Professional Learning sessions at the K-5 Summer Learning Institutes.
- We had 100% completion of the Georgia House Bill 307 requirements.
- Chorus students were invited to sing the National Anthem at the Gwinnett Stripers Game which also supported our goal of increased community involvement.
- Our students from the MiID and MoID special education programs participated in a field trip to Brightside Cafe in Buford, where they created a smoothie and named it ‘Titans Berry Blast’ which was featured on the restaurant’s menu for a week.
- Author Stan Tucker visited with our students and shared a message about Respect, Kindness and Loving Literacy.
- Students had the opportunity to participate in various extra-curricular activities particularly student clubs to enhance their skill set and sense of belonging. Such clubs offered during the year included the Alford Chorus, Art Club, Athletics Club, STEM Club, Garden Club, Step Team, and Drama Club.
- The number of ML students meeting criteria for exit from the ESOL program increased by 33% compared to last school year!
