School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how Cedar Hill Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- Throughout the 24-25 School Year our Cedar Hill Elementary Counselors, Ms. Paschal and Ms. Black received an award for the completion percentage of students completing the Pathway Junior program. Cedar Hill Elementary had over 96% of our students complete the program. Pathway Junior is a program that exposes students to an understanding of different careers and the different fields of study.
- During the 24- 25 School Year, the Cedar Hill Robotics team lead by Mr. Hamlet and Ms. Lutes took first place for both their Project and for the Robotics competition awards at the Conference tournament. They then competed at the Regional level where they ended up in ninth place overall, while competing against elementary schools as well as middle schools.
- This year's Reader's Rally team lead by Ms. Gruhn, Ms. Ward, and Ms. Quevedo qualified for the Quarter Finals of the district's Reader' Rally competition; they only missed the semi-finals by one point. Our students began training weekly since September in order to be prepared for this tournament and to have the success that they had.
- The Cedar Hill Elementary Counselor's organized and prepared a Career Day in January where they brought in leaders from the community to present to our Cedar Hill students their experiences in their careers and the opportunities provided for them through those careers. Some of the careers included and presented were Policemen, Firemen, Paramedics, Trainers, Insurance marketers, nurses, engineers and data analysts.
- Throughout the 24- 25 School year we had a monthly event entitled Principal Story Time, where the Principal, Tony Patino, at Cedar Hill reads stories to attending students via a Zoom session. Usually, the stories were connected to a monthly theme such as African American Heritage Month or Hispanic Heritage Month, or even stories about winter or even starting the school year.
- At the end of the school year, Cedar Hill Elementary received the results of the ACCESS tests (A National Assessment to measure Multilingual Student Growth. Due to the results of this assessment 35 Cedar Hill Multi Language Learners were promoted from the ESOL Program. These results come from the compulsory work of all teachers and staff at Cedar Hill, and especially the hard work of the ESOL Department.
- Cedar Hill had over 50 students participate in Peer Leaders. The Cedar Hill Peer Leaders have three different roles: Ambassadors, Patrols and Tech Supporters. Ambassadors our present and supportive of school events; the Patrols work in the hallways and help some of our younger students transition to their busses at the end of the day; and Tech Supporters work on media such as presentation and announcements that are used throughout the school.
- During the spring of our 24-25 School Year Cedar Hill had a group of teachers who lead a Readers Theatre program. The students auditioned and once selected rehearsed to present a reader's theatre play. Over twenty students worked with Ms. Mack, Ms. Carrington and Ms. Crisp to create a stage set and then present their play to an audience of our Cedar Hill families.
- Cedar Hill has returned to participate in the Gwinnett County Science Fair. Ms. Lutes, one of our 5th Grade teachers lead the program, where our students presented their projects at the school first. Students were then nominated by judges/Cedar Hill teachers, and ten students were selected to present their projects at the Gwinnett County Public School's Science Fair in January.
- Our Cedar Hill students performed well on the 24- 25 iReady Math and Reading Final Assessments by outperforming their 23- 24 results. They demonstrated a growth of 8% Typical Growth and 7% Stretch Growth in Reading. And they demonstrated a growth of 4% Typical Growth and 4% Stretch Growth in Math.
- We are excited about the relationship that we have with all of our stakeholders. In the case of our parents, they are highly involved and committed to the programs at Cedar Hill. We have had over 75% parent participation at our conferences throughout the school year. And at the end of the school year, we had twenty-five families present at our meeting to reinstate our PTA. Our school's relationship with our parents, sets the course for the growth and success of all Cedar Hill Elementary students.
