School Highlights

The following school highlights showcase how Dyer Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.

  • Returning this year, Dyer's robotics team—the Dyer Bearbotics—participated in the First Lego League competition. They advanced to the regional competition, where they earned the Champions Award, and then moved on to the Super Regionals, where they received the Core Values Award. Their outstanding performance earned them an invitation to the State Tournament in Athens—marking the first time a Dyer robotics team has advanced to the state level.
  • Dyer hosted its second annual Cultural Heritage Night, celebrating the rich diversity within our school community. Families created an impressive array of displays representing cultures from around the world. Traditional dishes were shared, giving everyone the opportunity to taste and experience global flavors. Many students and parents proudly wore traditional attire, showcasing a vibrant tapestry of colors, fabrics, and styles. This event was a beautiful reflection of the diverse backgrounds that make up our school, and its success is a testament to the outstanding participation and support from our families and staff.
  • Dyer Elementary School is the only GCPS school offering Guided Play Space (GPS) for primary students as a Special. Our Guided Play Space allows students to express their autonomy within a prepared environment and with adult scaffolding. Students can meet objectives through play while developing social-emotional skills and learning to work with one another.
  • Dyer Elementary is fortunate to have a supportive PTO. This year, the PTO generously utilized funds to enhance classroom resources for students and supported several teacher appreciation initiatives throughout the year. They also sponsored a variety of community events, including our Fall Festival, Holiday Lunches, Donuts with Grown-Ups, and an author visit.
  • Dyer’s inaugural Career Day was a tremendous success! Students enjoyed engaging with representatives from a variety of public service professions, including the FBI, EMTs, linemen, and the local animal shelter. The event sparked curiosity and inspired students as they learned about the many ways people serve and support our community.
  • Joyful Learning was implemented during morning arrival for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. This approach supports a smooth transition from home to the classroom through engaging, student-led choice activities. Joyful Learning fosters peer relationships, encourages collaboration, helps students navigate social conflicts, and promotes critical thinking—all within the classroom setting under the guidance of supportive adults.
  • Our head custodian, Mrs. Sexton, along with the entire custodial staff, received well-deserved recognition for their exemplary performance during the 2024–2025 school year. Their hard work and dedication have ensured a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all students and staff.
  • Fourth and fifth grades implemented a soft start to their school day. This approach provides a calm and flexible beginning, allowing students to ease into learning at their own pace. Rather than immediately starting academic tasks, students engage in low-stress activities that help create a positive and welcoming classroom environment.
  • The Georgia Department of Education recognized Dyer Elementary School with Emerging status for implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in the last school year. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.
  • Dyer's new gardening club, the Dyer Diggers, learned about plants and helped beautify the area around our gazebo.
