School Highlights
The following school highlights showcase how Dyer Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.
- Dyer Elementary School is the only GCPS school offering Guided Play Space (GPS) for primary students as a Special. Our Guided Play Space allows students to express their autonomy within a prepared environment and with adult scaffolding. Students can meet objectives through play while developing social-emotional skills and learning to work with one another.
- Joyful Learning was implemented during students' arrival in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. This helps transition the student from the home to the learning environment through free choice activities. Joyful learning allows students to build peer relationships, practice collaborating and working through social conflict, and develop critical thinking skills. All of this is done in the classroom with adult guidance.
- All students at Dyer Elementary School can take a Computer Science special. In these classes, they learn the building blocks of how computers work, laying the foundation for further coursework that they can take in middle school.
- Dyer hosted its inaugural Cultural Heritage Night. Our school community put together an incredible array of displays representing various cultures worldwide. Families brought in dishes from their heritage, allowing us to taste and experience flavors from different countries. Students and parents proudly wore traditional clothing from their heritage. This vibrant display of colors, fabrics, and styles is a beautiful representation of the diverse backgrounds that make up our school community. The success of this event is a testament to the incredible participation and support from our school community.
- Dyer Elementary School continues stellar implementation of the Georgia Department of Education's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.
- Dyer Elementary School has Peer Leaders, including 20 5th-grade students, who served our younger students and the school and coordinated various service projects.
- Dyer Elementary hired a full-time Parent Liaison to support our school families and bridge the home/school environment gap.
- Dyer hosted their annual STEAM Night with over 300 participants. Activities focused on critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. Parents and students worked together to solve various science-related tasks. Students and parents look forward to this event and future scientists are built.
- Dyer Elementary's staff continues engaging in professional learning to meet our goal of having 100% of our teachers certified in gifted and ESOL education. Several teachers completed this certification this year, bringing us over 80% in both areas.
- Dyer Elementary's PTO and business partners continue to support our students and staff with various programs and events, such as our Fall Festival, Father-Daughter Dance, and Holiday Luncheon.
