A Diverse and Inclusive School Community
Ferguson Elementary proudly represents 25 countries and more than 22 languages spoken in our students' homes. As the School of DREAMS, we are committed to creating a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment where every child is valued, supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed. Through strong relationships, student leadership opportunities, and meaningful family partnerships, we cultivate a true sense of belonging for all.
Outdoor Learning Garden
Thanks to a generous $6,000 donation from the Rotary Club of North Gwinnett, Ferguson Elementary began developing an outdoor learning garden that extends learning beyond the classroom. The space includes a digital weather station, outdoor classroom with a whiteboard built by a Ferguson parent, classroom benches, raised vegetable gardens for each grade level, and additional hands-on learning features that support STEM and environmental education.
Student Leadership
Ferguson offers a wide range of leadership and enrichment opportunities such as Student Council, Peer Leaders, Ferguson Young Queens, and the Robotics Club. Students work alongside the principal, school counselor, and the GCPS Student Leadership Coordinator to develop leadership skills while planning schoolwide events, serving their peers, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive school culture.
Dartha B. Ferguson Foundation
The Dartha B. Ferguson Foundation, established during the school's inaugural year as part of the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation, continued its tradition of supporting Ferguson by providing books for the media center, classroom and student supplies, playground equipment for every homeroom, and sponsoring community events such as Trick-or-Treat Night and the annual Foundation Ball.
Student Clubs, Enrichment and Robotics Excellence
More than 100 students participated in before-, during-, and after-school clubs that enriched learning beyond the classroom. Ferguson Elementary Club offerings included STEM, Gardening, theater and drama, student leadership, and other enrichment opportunities that nurtured students' interests, talents, creativity, and academic growth.
During the 2025- 2026 school year, Ferguson's Robotics Team demonstrated exceptional innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving by advancing from the district robotics competition to compete at the state level, showcasing our students' excellence in STEM.
State Recognition for PBIS
Ferguson Elementary was recognized by the Georgia Department of Education with Distinguished Status for its implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Through initiatives such as Daily Morning Meetings, SEL lessons, Mustangs of the Week, Mighty Mustangs recognition, the PBIS Spring Carnival, and other celebrations, Ferguson Elementary continues to promote positive behavior, strong character, and a supportive learning environment.
Celebrating Cultural Diversity
Ferguson's Cultural Awareness Committee intentionally celebrated the rich diversity of our school by planning heritage lessons, cultural displays, monthly recognitions, and schoolwide celebrations throughout the year. These efforts culminated in a Heritage Parade, engaging classroom learning experiences, and a vibrant International Night that brought families and the community together.
High School Internship Partnerships
Ferguson Elementary partnered with McClure Health Science High School and Meadowcreek High School to provide year-long internship opportunities for high school students. Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, interns served as clinic assistants, tutors, classroom assistants, and mentors, making meaningful contributions while gaining valuable educational and leadership experiences.
Expanding Family Engagement
Ferguson successfully implemented a new Parent Volunteer Program, placing two classroom parent coordinators in every homeroom. Working in collaboration with the Parent Outreach Liaison and Title I Parent Instructional Coordinator, these volunteers strengthened communication between home and school while providing valuable classroom support.
Exceptional Learner Programs
Ferguson Elementary proudly served more than 45 students in 10 self-contained classrooms, including seven Pre-K special education classes, demonstrating our commitment to providing individualized instruction, specialized supports, and inclusive learning opportunities that help every student thrive.
