- Freeman’s Mill Elementary was recently identified by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) for its high academic performance through the Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS). For the 2025 SSAS awards, CCRPI data from the three most recent school years (2022–2023, 2023–2024, and 2024–2025) was used to determine award recipients, highlighting the school’s consistent commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
- Freeman’s Mill Elementary was recognized as a Distinguished PBIS School, an honor that highlights the school’s strong commitment to promoting positive behavior, fostering a safe and respectful learning environment, and supporting the social-emotional development of all students. Through the consistent implementation of PBIS practices, the school has created a culture where expectations are clearly defined, students are recognized for meeting those expectations, and behavioral supports are provided to ensure success for every learner.
- For the third consecutive year, Freeman’s Mill Elementary was recognized by Gwinnett County Public Schools for having the highest engagement on the Gallup Survey of all GCPS schools. The school’s focus on building meaningful relationships, celebrating achievements, and prioritizing well-being has resulted in a highly engaged learning community where individuals feel valued, supported, and motivated to succeed.
- Freeman’s Mill Elementary earned the John Hancock Distinguished Award from the Georgia Department of Education in recognition of 3rd grade students being able to write their name and the Preamble in cursive.
- Freeman’s Mill Elementary earned certification as a “No Place for Hate” school, demonstrating its commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for all students and staff. Through intentional activities, student-led initiatives, and schoolwide awareness efforts, the school promotes acceptance, celebrates diversity, and empowers students to take an active role in creating a positive and supportive school culture.
- Freeman’s Mill Elementary provides students with rich opportunities for exploration and innovation through its robotics and extracurricular programs. Two LEGO Robotics teams participated in the FIRST LEGO League, where each team earned awards at the Mountain View Regional Competition and advanced to the Super Regional Competition, showcasing students’ problem-solving, collaboration, and STEM skills. Additionally, more than 60 students participated in a before-school Robotics Club, further expanding access to hands-on learning experiences. The school also sponsored a variety of clubs, including STEP Team, Chorus, Running Club, and Chess/Checkers, and offered monthly in-school clubs to ensure every student had the opportunity to engage in activities that match their interests and talents.
- In collaboration with the PTO, Freeman’s Mill Elementary hosted a wide range of events that strengthened family engagement and built a strong sense of community. These events included International Night, Polar Express, STEAM Night, Mother-Son Game Night, Father-Daughter Dance, All Pro Dad, iMom events, and Roaring Readers. In addition, the school led a highly successful fundraiser that raised over $70,000 to support school initiatives, demonstrating the collective commitment of families, staff, and community members to enhancing opportunities for students.
- Freeman’s Mill Elementary actively supports multilingual learners and their families through innovative programs and meaningful partnerships. The school established a Multi-Lingual Ambassadors Club, where students who speak multiple languages mentor and support emerging multilingual students, fostering both academic success and a sense of belonging. In partnership with the Dacula Library, the school also offered a weekly “Conversations in English” class for parents working to strengthen their English language skills. Additionally, the school provided a Parent Connections class to equip families with strategies and resources to best support their children’s learning at home.
- Freeman’s Mill Elementary Student Council demonstrated a strong commitment to service and leadership by partnering with a local food pantry to collect donations and serve the community. Students also led several outreach initiatives focused on collecting clothing and food for those in need. In addition, Student Council launched the Bear Share Basket Project, which provides students access to free snacks while helping reduce food waste in the cafeteria. These efforts reflect the school’s emphasis on character development, civic responsibility, and empowering students to make a positive impact in their community.
- Freeman’s Mill Elementary continues to invest in professional learning to strengthen instructional practices, as evidenced by two teachers successfully completing the Coaching Endorsement program and two teachers completing the Gifted Endorsement program. These accomplishments expand the school’s capacity to support differentiated instruction, provide targeted support to colleagues, and meet the diverse academic needs of all students through enhanced expertise and leadership.
