- Gwin Oaks Elementary was recognized as a "Taking Action Green & Healthy School" in the Environmental Achievement Awards sponsored by Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. The award acknowledges expanded involvement of environmental programs, practices, and education efforts in seven specific earth-friendly areas waste reduction, education and stewardship, water conservation and watershed protection, air quality, energy conservation, beautification and green space preservation, and community outreach – as well as demonstration of curriculum integration and alignment to AKS standards. In addition, Gwin Oaks student-initiated project ideas that impact our environment and community.
- This year, grades 3-5 students participated in 3 different book clubs. In addition, fifth-grade students participated in the Broadcast Club, which included a trip to the GCPS broadcast studio.
- Our school introduced two new clubs this year: Chess Club and Astronomy Club. Both clubs were well received and enjoyed by students during the year.
- Our 4th and 5th-grade students were able to participate in the school chorus this year, and they performed in two concerts during the year.
- This year, two robotics teams at Gwin Oaks participated in the First Lego League competition. The Bunnybots advanced to the regional competition, and the Thunderbolts advanced to the regional competition, where they won the core value award. The Thunderbolts also advanced to the super-regional competition.
- The Gwin Oaks PTA fundraiser supported funding for additional classroom technology for all students.
- Our student council members led a school-wide food and supply drive for local community organizations.
- Our Jr. Beta Club members led a school-wide book and clothing drive for local community shelters.
- Gwin Oaks' fathers and family members participated in our All-Pro Dad program throughout the school year.
- The Georgia Department of Education recognized Gwin Oaks Elementary School with Operational status for implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in the last school year. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.
