Cultural Competency Professional Learning
Rockbridge Elementary is in its third year of Cultural Competency professional development. This ongoing learning equips staff with tools to enhance student engagement and build positive, meaningful relationships with students and their families. The training emphasizes a strength-based mindset, encourages self-awareness of biases, and promotes authentic staff collaboration.
Community Partnership
Rockbridge Elementary partnered with the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority to provide healthy snacks and weekend meals for students through the AKA CHIPP (Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack) Program. To date, they have packed over 3,500 CHIPP Food Packs for our community.
Support for Multilingual Learners
Rockbridge Elementary began implementing Instructional Conversations as part of its commitment to supporting multilingual learners. This approach involves small-group, goal-oriented discussions led by students to promote meaningful dialogue around academic content. Instructional Conversations foster language development, expand vocabulary, and encourage collaboration—empowering multilingual learners to build both language proficiency and confidence.
Family Engagement Events
Rockbridge Elementary welcomes families through a series of engagement events, including Family Potluck and Partnerships, Bingo Night, Black History Month Program, STEM and Fine Arts Night, Literacy Night, and the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta.
Special Olympics
Students at Rockbridge Elementary proudly participate in the Special Olympics—an event that builds camaraderie and celebrates the unique talents and strengths of every participant. This meaningful experience fosters a strong sense of belonging and inclusion, allowing students to shine while supporting and uplifting one another.
Student Well-Being
Rockbridge Elementary prioritizes student support and well-being. This year, school funding was allocated to enhance the ASD II sensory room—a dedicated space designed to meet the sensory needs of our learners. The room is now equipped with a variety of tools that help students decompress, self-regulate, and engage in activities that support their sensory needs.
Parent Workshops
Rockbridge Elementary hosts a series of parent workshops to empower families and strengthen home-school connections. Our Parent Center offers sessions focused on building parent capacity in key areas, including technology training and support, strategies for fostering early literacy at home, and understanding the social-emotional needs of young learners. Families gain valuable tools to support their children's growth and success both in and out of the classroom.
Employee Engagement
This year, Rockbridge Elementary exceeded the GCPS average in employee satisfaction and exceeded the district on multiple Gallup Q12 engagement measures. The Gallup Q12 is a research-based survey that assesses employee engagement and motivation, helping organizations identify strengths and areas for growth to improve workplace performance and retention.
PBIS Recognitions
Rockbridge Elementary is proud to be a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school. Through PBIS, we consistently celebrate and reinforce positive student behavior. Students are recognized as R.E.S. Mustangs by demonstrating Respect, Engagement, and Safety. To celebrate their efforts, we host quarterly events such as dances, movie-and-popcorn days, PBIS lunches with the principal, and more—nurturing a fun and supportive school culture.
Early Literacy Commitment
Rockbridge Elementary successfully met the state requirements outlined by the Georgia Early Literacy Act. This legislation aims to strengthen early literacy instruction for students in kindergarten through third grade across Georgia. In alignment with the bill, all K–3 teachers at Rockbridge Elementary completed a series of professional learning sessions focused on structured literacy, the science of reading, and foundational literacy skills—ensuring high-quality, evidence-based instruction for our youngest learners.
