School Highlights

The following school highlights showcase how White Oak Elementary School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.

  • White Oak Elementary held its STEM Recertification Banner Ceremony to recognize being awarded STEM certification by the Georgia Department of Education.
  • Over thirty-five kindergarten through fifth-grade students showcased their scientific prowess at the White Oak Science Fair. Our top three winners not only shone at our fair but also excelled at the Gwinnett Regional Science, Engineering, and Innovation Fair, bringing honor to our school.
  • At White Oak, we believe in inclusivity. That's why we offer all our students the opportunity to engage in a variety of extracurricular activities with Clubs for All. This program, held monthly during the school day, ensures that 100% of our students can participate in an extracurricular activity of their choice. Sponsored by teachers, staff, and the Mayor of Sugar Hill, a City Council member, and Sugar Hill Marshals, Clubs for All offers a variety of interest-based choice clubs such as video production, photography, Explore Sugar Hill Kindness, and Indian dancing. It extends the AKS curriculum and supports Social and Emotional Learning, making every student feel valued and included.
  • White Oak partnered with the other Lanier cluster elementary schools to participate in our first annual 5th Grade Flag Football game at Lanier High School. The Lanier High School Football Team coached the game. We also enjoyed having the Lanier High School cheerleaders join us to cheer alongside our students.
  • For the fourteenth consecutive year, White Oak has been recognized as a No Place for Hate School by the Anti-Defamation League. This long-standing recognition is a testament to our school's commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all our students, making us all proud and reassured.
  • White Oak students participated in “Exploring Sugar Hill” this year. This experience provided a community learning experience for all Kindergarten-5th grade students in the Lanier Cluster. Students had the opportunity to learn through experiences within their community. Students engaged and interacted with business leaders, nonprofit organizations, and government leaders who work in fields aligned with the AKS.
  • White Oak opened an inclusive playground, The Unity Ranch, designed and built to be accessible to every student. The Unity Ranch allows students of all abilities to interact with one another while enjoying the simple joy of play. White Oak hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by community members, GCPS employees, and board members.
  • White Oak offers Play to Learn weekly and birth to five programs for parents/caregivers and children. This year, White Oak expanded its Play to Learn program with the implementation of The Little Learners Academy, hosted once a month. In addition, our Play to Learn program students went on multiple community-based field trips.
  • Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) was implemented in grades K-5. A school-wide behavior matrix was developed to promote positive behaviors in areas throughout the school that exemplified being ready, respectful, and responsible. Students exhibiting these behaviors earned Longhorn Loot, which allowed them to engage in PBIS rewards and activities throughout the school year.
  • A Parent Liaison worked to build the bridge between the school and the stakeholders within the community. White Oak’s parent liaison worked with parents throughout the year to understand technology, complete required documentation, and how to help their child at home. In addition, the parent liaison hosted multiple learning opportunities for parents to attend in the school, including co-hosting a testing informational session and providing interpretation during parent/teacher conferences.
