  • The Berkmar Culinary teams won multiple competitions this year. Chef James Bryant’s team won the Prostart State Competition and advanced to Nationals and won 7th place. Chef Preston Gouge’s team, Chimmy More won the Georgia State Title for Fueling Georgia’s Future Student Chef Competition. The Georgia Department of Education visited Berkmar High School to tasted and served the winning dish, the Chicken Churrasco Bowl, on the cafeteria lunch line.
  • The Berkmar DECA chapter was selected to join the DECA and AT&T Project (Partnership).  Berkmar was nominated by the DECA Georgia state president and the DECA region 7 president.  The project offers mentorships, grant funding and other opportunities for the students.
  • The Berkmar Construction Academy proudly hosted our 8th Annual Construction Signing Day. Thirty of our students signed to begin their careers with construction companies after graduation. This milestone is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the strong partnerships we’ve built with 15 amazing companies who are committed to helping our students BUILD bright futures. Together, these students are projected to earn nearly $1.5 MILLION in their first year alone.
  • The Berkmar High School World Languages Department Spanish Native Speakers program had thirty-nine students who earned the Global Seal of Biliteracy. This prestigious, internationally recognized award celebrates their high-level proficiency in two languages.
  • The Berkmar High School Mathematics department earned the State of Georgia Math Leader Award for Algebra C&C, which demonstrated an eighteen-point increase on the Georgia Milestone Assessment.
  • The Berkmar High School's Advanced Placement Department received recognition as an AP Access and Support School for enabling at least 30% of its African American and/or Hispanic students to take AP exams, with 30% of all exams scoring 3 or higher. The school was also honored as an AP Humanities School for offering at least five AP exams across specific humanities categories (ELA, social studies, fine arts, and world language). Finally, Berkmar was designated an AP STEM School for administering at least five exams in each of four distinct AP STEM subjects.
  • Berkmar High School hosted its annual Multicultural Festival that celebrated diversity with student-led performances, tabling activities, and prepared dishes to share with the community.
  • Imagine Learning awarded one of Berkmar High School’s students a Star Student recognition that demonstrated tremendous growth from beginning-of-year literacy benchmark to their end-of-year literacy benchmark.
  • Berkmar High School hosted a Battle of the Bands competition that included schools from Gwinnett and Dekalb County. The event brought the community together to hear great music in a friendly environment. Students were able to engage with one another and demonstrate school pride.
