School Highlights

Mountain View High School has one of the largest post-secondary programs in the district including many opportunities for Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment Classes.  We challenge all students to take at least one post-secondary class while in high school and many students take more.

The following school highlights showcase how Mountain View High School is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.

Advanced Placement Honors Recognition
Mountain View High School is recognized as an AP Honors School in six categories by the Georgia Department of Education: AP Access and Support School, AP Humanities School, AP Humanities Achievement School, AP School of Distinction, AP STEM School, and AP STEM Achievement School.

SUMMIT STEM/PBL and Leadership Program Launch
In 2024–2025, MVHS launched the SUMMIT Program, a project-based learning (PBL) initiative integrating STEM education and student leadership. The inaugural cohort included over 120 ninth-grade students. Participants will earn the Engineering CTAE diploma seal. The program will expand in 2025–2026 to include 10th-grade and incoming 9th-grade cohorts, with a newly established student leadership team and the addition of a dedicated engineering lab.

Extensive Student Engagement Through Clubs and Organizations
MVHS offers over 40 student-led clubs, including National Honor Society, Key Club, and Student Council. The MVHS Student Council was recognized as a "Council of Excellence" by the Georgia Association of Student Councils for outstanding student leadership and service.

Comprehensive Athletics and Leadership Development
MVHS supports 18 GHSA varsity sports programs, all of which promote academic and athletic excellence. A Student-Athlete Leadership Council was developed to recognize and support student leaders across athletic programs. Fifteen varsity teams advanced to post-season playoffs during the 2024–2025 school year.

Focus on Character Education and Well-Being
The school implemented the Character Strong advisement program, designed to promote student well-being, character development, and leadership through structured weekly lessons.

Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Excellence
Mountain View students have access to multiple CTAE pathways, including Business, Marketing, and Engineering. In 2024–2025, 56 students completed a CTAE pathway, with 76 students participating in work-based learning, logging 34,466 hours and earning over $412,000. MVHS also integrated welding into its Engineering curriculum, and our CTAE Student of the Year was named a Top 3 finalist in the district.

Fine Arts Achievement and Community Engagement
The MVHS Fine Arts department continues to thrive. The school hosted the annual Mountain View Cluster Art Show and the Cluster Choral Concert, which welcomed over 200 student performers. The MVHS Orchestra performed throughout metro Atlanta, including at the prestigious Hudgens Prize Gala.

Music Program Distinction
Four MVHS Chorus students were selected for the 2025 Georgia All-State Chorus, and 21 students participated in the District 13 Honor Chorus. All performing arts ensembles received high ratings at Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluations.

Student Leadership and Community Connection
Leadership opportunities are embedded throughout the student experience, including the new SUMMIT student leadership committees, Student Council initiatives, and the Student-Athlete Leadership Council, all of which promote civic engagement and school pride.

Cluster-Wide Collaboration and Showcase Events
MVHS continues to serve as a hub for Mountain View Cluster events, bringing together students and families from across the community through arts showcases, music performances, and academic celebrations.
