- On February 24, 2024, our Couch Middle School Readers Rally team achieved a historic victory, clinching the title of GCPS Division Two Readers Rally Champs for the first time. The students diligently read ten books to qualify and went head-to-head in answering questions against each Division Two GCPS Middle School. Coach Bonaby and Coach Miller are incredibly proud of these deserving students. Their unwavering dedication and hard work have indeed paid off!
- Couch MS was recognized as a Distinguished PBIS school for the 2023-2024 school year for supporting a positive school climate through implementing the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework.
- Couch students: Ngan Vu, Jasmine Miles, Daisy Tran, Sadie Li-A-Ping, Naliah Richards, Magaly Pavon Becerra, Susan Ngoma, Betsega Demeke, Grace Roane, Rubi Garcia, Jaseng Shair, Melissa Saldana, Zumar Osman, Brealand Dieng, Regina Varghese, Micah Green, Grason Busse, and Saida Mohamed all received Superior Ratings for their performances as soloists or chamber groups.
- During Black History Month, multiple Couch MS groups, including RAM Time Drama members, RAM Jam Jazz Band, CMS Honor Orchestra, CMS Honor Chorus, and Ms. Miller's Mentorship Girl group, performed a special assembly for the student body as contributions and achievements of Black and African Americans were celebrated.
- On Saturday, May 4th, rising 6th graders learned about Couch Middle School at their Rising 6th Grade Orientation program. The half-day program consisted of a presentation that included Fine Arts demonstrations, a parent informational meeting, a building tour, and learning about all the exciting opportunities ahead at Couch Middle!
- Couch MS participated in Violapalooza. Clayton Moore, Rubi Garcia, Zumar Osman, Kai Clarke, Sisa Mpala, Olivia Saint Cyr, Ivan Robert, Geneshia Nhyirani, Kaysen Carr, and Jonathan Brown spent a day at Pinckneyville MS attending viola-specific workshops with highly acclaimed viola professionals. Students attended a professional viola concert with other grade 6-12 violists from around Gwinnett County.
- On April 20th, 2024, twenty percent of the Couch Middle School 6th Grade Orchestra represented our school at the GCPS Countywide 6th Grade Honor Orchestra event.
- Couch offers a wide variety of "learning beyond the core" courses that encourage students to consider unique learning opportunities that will expand their experiences. Some offerings include Student Leadership, Business, Marketing, Drama, Robotics, Computer Science, Yearbook Club, and Life Academy. Additionally, our 8th-grade students have seven different course options, which they can receive high school Carnegie Unit credit that will count towards graduation.
- Couch Middle School opened the Couch Canteen, organized by our Levels 3 and 4 Autism students. The Couch Canteen is a coffee shop that offers our Couch staff various drinks and snacks. The shop allows our Autistic students to develop and enhance transferable life skills, such as effective communication, social and professional etiquette, and ownership and responsibility. The Couch Canteen was opened in the fall of 2022 and continues to thrive today.
- Couch Middle School hosts Noche Latina Night each fall to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Student cultural performances of dance, music, food, and the arts highlight the celebration. During the spring, Couch hosts an International Night where the widely diverse and beautiful cultures of the Grayson cluster are honored and celebrated. Over 800 attendees have participated in the fall and spring festivities, where students demonstrated their powerful connections and passions for their cultures through music, dance, drama, arts, food, and inspiring fellowship.
