- Twin Rivers proudly submitted 20 projects in the Gwinnett Regional Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair, and 14 of those projects placed in the top 3 for their respective categories. Two Twin Rivers students were recognized at the national level for their outstanding science fair project. The students represent the top 300 selected from 1,828 Regional and State winning entrants across 50 states and Puerto Rico.
- Twin Rivers had 162 8th graders participate in the Nordson Tech Time Challenge, which is an essay writing contest. Three Twin Rivers students’ submissions were selected as winners of the prize packages!
- TRMS teachers were awarded 3 Jackson EMC Bright Idea Grants. Additionally, two teachers were awarded Georgia Department of Education Grants in math and science. These grants totaled nearly $9,000.
- Twin Rivers FBLA members were very active this year with attending the Motivational Rally at Six Flags, Fall Leadership in Athens, State Leadership in Columbus, and the Sports Marketing Day with the Atlanta Hawks. This year membership grew to over 100 students and the Twin Rivers chapter was recognized at Regions as the second largest chapter in our Region. Students earned four 1st place awards, one 2nd place, and 12 students placed in the top ten in their events at regions. TRMS was recognized at State with a REACH Campaign award and 2nd place for the largest percent increase in local chapter membership for Georgia.
- The TRMS Reader’s Rally team placed 2nd in their division and moved forward to compete in the county competition. All students who completed the Spring Reading Challenges (Read Across America and Passports to Empathy) were invited to the media celebration, which included a free book from the Book Mobile, treats, and time to read.
- The Twin Rivers Competitive VEX Robotics teams had a great year. The 8th Grade team placed 2nd at the Middle School Mayhem Competition, and both the 7th and 8th grade teams qualified for the State Competition. The program received a Jackson EMC grant which will help us add a 3rd VEX Robotics team for the 2024-2025 school year!
- The TRMS 8th Grade Band attended the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation earning an overall Superior rating for their stage performance. Eleven band students participated in the GMEA Solo & Ensemble spring event. Each soloist and/or ensemble member earned Superior ratings for their performance(s). Two students earned their seat in the Georgia Music Educators Association District XIII Honor Band for the 2023-2024 school year.
- The TRMS Chorus program has had a very successful year! We sent 23 students to GMEA District XIII Honor Chorus in Athens in October. In February, we set a school record by sending 5 TRMS Students to GMEA All-State Chorus! The TRMS 7th/8th Grade Mixed Chorus received Straight Superior Performance Ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation, along with a perfect score in Sight Singing!
- The 7th and 8th Grade Twin Rivers Orchestra students earned straight Superior ratings on stage and in sight reading at the District XIII Large Group Performance Evaluation. One of our orchestra students earned a seat in the All-State Orchestra. Four 8th grade students performed all year with the Kendall Orchestra. Sixteen 7th and 8th grade students performed in the GMEA District XIII Solo and Ensemble event. All 16 students earned Superior or Excellent ratings.
- At the GCPS Middle School Dramarama, Twin Rivers was awarded with Best Cast, Best Actress, Best Monologue, and Best Musical Solo. We also chartered our first Junior Thespian Troupe.
- The TRMS Boys Basketball team enjoyed an exciting and successful 2023-2024 season. The team qualified for the "ELITE 8" in the GCPS Middle School Playoffs.
- This year, we hosted the first ever International Night at Twin Rivers Middle School to celebrate the rich cultures represented by our students and their families. We enjoyed live musical and artistic performances by our students, and our families brought in amazing food representing many different countries around the world.
- Twin Rivers Middle School continued to develop our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program. In our second year of implementation, each teacher worked with the students to create a classroom matrix of expectations. We continued leveraging the virtual school store where students traded in behavior points for rewards. Finally, we recognized our students meeting and exceeding our schoolwide expectations of Respect, Responsibility, and being an Effective Communicator through quarterly celebrations such as the PBIS Polar Party, the TRMS OlymPBIS, and the PBISplash Event.
