Exercise Physiology

  • One of the fastest growing fields in healthcare!

    Exercise Physiology is the study of the body’s response and ability to adapt to physical activity, and is a sub field of exercise science, that focuses on how physical activity can improve health and wellness. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, between now and 2026, the number of jobs available for Exercise Physiologists is projected to increase at more than double the national rate. Fitness trainers and instructors who use the skills learned in the program are in high demand as well, with a projected increase of 10 percent forecast for the same time period, so right now is a fantastic time to prepare for a career in exercise physiology.

    Students in the program will experience rigorous field related project-based learning, technical-skills practice, and professional-development activities to obtain the knowledge and skills required to pass the NASM Certified Personal Trainer certification and enter the healthcare workforce.

    Dual Enrollment Program

    Gwinett Tech Dual Enrollment Program

    The Dual Enrollment program provides eligible students opportunities to earn both high school and college credit while studying at Grayson Tech. Students will take the college level course ALHS 1040 Introduction to Health Care and ALHS 1011 Structure and Function of Human Body. These courses introduce the fundamental principles, practices, and issues common in the health care profession, and the basic normal structure and functions of the human body at a collegiate level. Students will be required to have passed a college entrance exam such as the ACCUPLACER, ACT, SAT, or PSAT to qualify for credit.

    The program embeds Anatomy and Physiology course as a fourth year science for graduation and admittance to college.

Eddie Knox

“Promoting safe and healthy communities one step at a time”

Eddie Knox moved to Gwinnett County shortly after attending college at Valdosta State University. He studied athletic training at Valdosta State University and proceeded to work in a diverse dynamic setting in Atlanta, Georgia. Passionate about sports medicine, he was given the opportunity to work with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in year 2009. Shortly afterwards, in year 2010, Eddie moved to Gwinnett County and started working in the clinical setting as a certified athletic trainer. He began athletic training outreach through Gwinnett Medical Center Sports Medicine Program. Eddie has been actively working in the sports medicine field for eight years and has plans to continue the direction of sports medicine through interactive public health and athletic training services. Currently, he works with the Mountain View High School program and is actively involved in sports medicine daily activities as the Head Athletic Trainer. In addition, Eddie has completed his Master Degree of Public Health, with a focus in epidemiology from Benedictine University. He has interacted with the Georgia Department of Public Health, and piloted a injury prevention program for agencies in the state of georgia. With encouragement from health professionals alike, Eddie has continued to embrace new opportunities of development in the field of athletic training and sports medicine. These new opportunities include research and publication additions.  In his free time, Eddie enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, recreational activities, and DIY projects.
