For students with a sincere love for the care and medical treatment of animals, the Veterinary Technology program will allow you to explore turning your passion for animals into a lifelong career.
In a state-of-the-art facility you will work with animals, gaining the skills necessary to be prepared for admission into highly competitive college programs in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Technology.
In addition to studying the history and evolution of various species, you will learn about breeds, anatomy, biomechanics and movement, genetics, reproduction, digestion and nutrition, health and behavior management, and animal housing. You will also establish a new vocabulary with the use of medical terminology. Classroom dissections and demonstrations will help you better understand life processes and the structure of organisms as you develop your observation skills.
This classroom knowledge will be explored at a local veterinary hospital while participating in an internship once weekly second semester. Enrolling in the Veterinary Technology program will offer you an unparalleled opportunity to explore this field before investing in years of study at college.
An introduction to the student-led health care organization, HOSA, will offer you co-curricular opportunities such as competing at state and international conventions, establishing relationships with fellow veterinary science students who share your common interests, and networking with industry professionals.
This program will fulfill the fourth science requirement for graduation as well as the Board of Regents admission requirement.
