• Digital Learning Days

  • As a reminder, our eCLASS provider D2L is used by K12 and higher education institutions across the country and throughout the world. We anticipate that we could experience some slowness in our tool as usage everywhere increases.

Look for this icon on your teacher's eCLASS page to access Digital Learning Day assignments!

  • What?

Students will be completing activities for their homeroom teacher (all grades) and a Special Areas teacher (grades 2nd-5th).

If you have multiple students attending Head Elementary, each student is expected to participate.
This means each student will need to log into his or her Student Portal/My eCLASS page individually.

Kindergarten - Will not have a Special Areas assignment
1st Grade - Will not have a Special Areas assignment

2nd Grade through 5th Grade will complete a Special Areas assignment EACH day. Please click here for the Specials Schedule for Extended Digital Learning Days.

  • When?

Any school closure will be communicated using SchoolMessenger, social media, the GCPS website, and local news outlets. In the event that a school closure is necessary, the district could opt to hold a Digital Learning Day rather than using a snow make-up day. If the decision is made to hold a Digital Learning Day, it will be communicated as noted above, and the school and district processes for online learning will go into effect. If a decision is made to use a standard make-up day, students and staff will not be expected to access assignments online.

On a Digital Learning Day, teachers will post assignments on their eCLASS pages.

    • High school assignments will be posted by 8 AM.
    • Elementary school assignments will be posted by 9 AM.
    • Middle school assignments will be posted by 10 AM.

Head Elementary teachers will be monitoring their page throughout the day if students or parents have any questions. You are also welcome to email your child's teacher if you have any trouble.

  • Device/System/Browser Requirements

    Browser Requirements

We have found that some items are not working when using Microsoft Edge.
For now, the preferred browser is Google Chrome for anything related to D2L/eCLASS.

  • Technology Troubleshooting

With personal and GCPS Google accounts, students may have trouble accessing Google applications, even when the creator of the document has shared it correctly. This can be caused by the defaults created on the computers or other devices teachers and students are working from.
