New leaders named by Gwinnett Board of Education

Board of Education appoints district and school leaders

October 16, 2020

At its regular monthly meeting on October 15, 2020, the Gwinnett County Board of Education appointed Dr. Clay Hunter as the district’s Interim Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instructional Support. Dr. Hunter is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instructional Support. He fills the vacancy created by the departure of Dr. Johnathan Patterson, who accepted a position with a neighboring school district. The Board also named Dr. Michele Smith as the Executive Director of Internal Resolution and Compliance/Title IX Coordinator. Dr. Smith currently serves as Principal of Jenkins Elementary School. She replaces Joyce Spraggs who is retiring this month. The process to appoint a new principal for Jenkins will begin immediately.

In addition to these district appointments, the Board named new principals for Rosebud Elementary School and Stripling Elementary School. Brittany Riddick, an assistant principal at Shiloh Elementary, is the new principal of Rosebud Elementary. Dr. Molly McAuliffe, an assistant principal at Harris Elementary, has been named principal of Stripling Elementary. Riddick and McAuliffe fill the positions held by Monica Ball and Dr. Chisel Valdez, respectively, both of whom are currently out on leave.
