Gwinnett athletic directors earn honors with Central Gwinnett High’s Eddie Hood named best in state

June 24, 2021

Eddie Hood, who served as Central Gwinnett High School’s Athletic Director (AD), was honored as the 2021 Georgia Athletic Director’s Association’s (GADA) 6A State AD of the Year. Hood was selected from a group of ADs representing Georgia’s 64 regions across eight classifications. Region ADs of the year are chosen by their peers to represent their region based on the candidate’s professionalism, leadership and willingness to go above and beyond their job responsibilities to support all students.

Ed Shaddix, Gwinnett County Public Schools’ director of athletics, acknowledges that Hood is special. “Eddie is an outstanding administrator and leader,” Shaddix said. “He is a GCPS graduate who quickly moved up the ranks in Gwinnett. He served as an administrator at Central Gwinnett High where he was an instructional leader as well as the athletic director. He has done an incredible job for GCPS, and will be missed as he transitions to a district level leader position outside of our district. His tireless work ethic and commitment to all kids are trademarks that will serve him well.”

Hood was not the only AD from Gwinnett honored at the GADA Awards Gala. The following were named Region ADs of the Year in their respective classes:
