I hope this communication finds you and your family enjoying the summer and staying healthy!
In light of the increased cases of COVID-19 in Gwinnett County, and the district’s recent decision for all students to begin the school year digitally, our Open House will be virtual for all students in grades 6-8. While this is certainly disappointing for you and for our staff, we know this is the safest decision for us to make to protect everyone from the potential spread of the Coronavirus.
Our Virtual Open House will be Monday August 10th, 9:00-11:00 a.m. Your student will be able to log-in to their teachers’ e-CLASS pages for a virtual meet and greet. Prior to that on Friday August 7th, teachers will post a video greeting introducing themselves to students and parents.
If your student needs to borrow a Chromebook device, you may begin checking those out now from the main office between 8:00a.m.-4:00p.m., Monday-Friday. It is not recommended that students try to participate in digital learning using a cell phone. Unlike last spring, students will follow a full course schedule and will be expected to participate in each of their classes daily from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Our teachers are working hard to create challenging and engaging learning activities in the digital setting.
I am sincerely sorry that you and your child are experiencing the disappointment and frustration of not being able to attend school in-person at this time. It is heartbreaking for me to think that our dynamic and inquisitive students will not be here physically on August 12. If we all do our part in social distancing, wearing face-masks, and exercising good hand-washing patterns, hopefully we can reduce the virus spread and get back to in-person school! Please follow our school website for additional information over the next several weeks.
