We need to establish the Sycamore Elementary School Council. Georgia’s A+ Education Reform Act of 2000 required that school councils are policy-level advisory bodies to the Principal, Superintendent, and local board of education. They may advise and make recommendations on any matter related to school improvement and student achievement. The purpose of school councils is to “bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation to solve difficult education problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the school-based decision-making process.”
The School Council is composed of seven members:
Two certified teachers elected by the teachers
Four parents (or guardians) elected by the parents; two of the parents must be businesspersons.
Two businesspersons, selected according to the school council’s bylaws
We have had several parents, business partners, and two teachers that have expressed interest in serving on the council. We need another parent council member. If you are interested, please send your name in to Dr. Scarborough by next week.
I appreciate your support of our school. I am confident that we will experience many successes. Together we will make a difference for our students. Thank you for sending them to school each day ready to learn and do their very best!
