Teacher of the Year, Ms. Kayla M. Smith

Congratulations to Ms. Kayla M. Smith for being named Minor Elementary's Teacher of the Year!

Ms. Smith is a Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher here at Minor.  She teaches first and second grade students.

Ms. Smith graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2016.  While earning her degree, she took an American Sign Language (ASL) class for fun.  She took to the language like a fish to water!  She decided to continue her education by earning a master's degree in Special Education with a concentration in Deaf Education.  After she graduated she got a job here at Minor and has been teaching here ever since.

Some of Ms. Smith's hobbies are drawing, reading, hiking with her dog, and playing video games.  She loves the color pink, ladybugs, and French bulldogs!

Ms. Smith is honored to be named the 2023 Teacher of the Year!
