S.H.I.E.L.D. Tutoring

Students Honoring Instructional Excellence through Learning and Development (S.H.I.E.L.D.)

Welcome to Knight S.H.I.E.L.D!  This is our new initiative to meet students where they are and build their capacity on their journey to academic success.

What is Knight S.H.I.E.L.D? It is a program to help students succeed in their academic and social emotional learning throughout the school year.

What does it stand for? During the planning process, teachers got together and developed a name for the program; Knight S.H.I.E.L.D.  The acronym stands for Students Honoring Instructional Excellence through Learning and Development.

Why “shield”? As a group of dedicated teachers and students, we are arming the students with tools to protect and defend their learning by providing them with additional resources and time in a more intimate setting to gain mastery on the AKS.

What do we do?  We provide students with the opportunity to receive extra help in content, from a dedicated teacher or peer, to improve academic performance and focus on social emotional learning.

When do we meet? We will meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and 2 Saturdays a month.

How does my student sign up?

Students must be signed into their GCPS Google (@g.gcpsk12.org) account to fill out the form. The form opens and closes each week.

The best and easiest way is for the Student (or a parent who is sitting with the student) to use the Student's School Issued Chromebook, go to their My eCLASS Course Pages (Green icon below StudentVUE ) and use the SHIELD link in the announcement to access the form to sign up. Since the student will be on their school chromebook, they will already be logged into their account to fill out the form.

Even with this direct link (https://bit.ly/cghsSHIELD ), your student needs to be logged into their @g.gcpsk12.org GCPS Google account to fill the form out. (Easiest from their school chromebook-> eClass Course Pages (CGHS Landing)->SHEILD Link. )

This information is also shared throughout the week during advisement and should be completed by the end of advisement on Friday.  After signing up, students and parents will receive an email reminder that their student has requested to come at some point during the week.

Who should I contact if I have questions?  If you need any additional information, please feel free to contact Ms. Brothers via email at Franchesca.Brothers@gcpsk12.org.
