Instructional Options for the 2021-2022 School Year

Dear Collins Hill Parents and Students, 

With GCPS’ School Messenger being sent today about returning to in person instruction for the 2021-2022 school year with directions for families wanting to opt out for digital learning, we wanted to clarify what those options mean for students at Collins Hill High School.

While GCPS is providing only two options for families, CHHS has traditionally offered flexibility for some students to be off campus for part of the day through our Hybrid program.  We offer “Hybrid” classes that include one day a week that is in person (for direct instruction, labs and/or assessments) and four days of asynchronous instruction. Some students have already signed up for our Hybrid classes, which were geared towards 11th/12th grade students because of transportation that is required to participate in the hybrid program.  Students that registered for Hybrid classes should remain selected as In Person. If you are not sure if your student registered for Hybrid classes, instructions for viewing course requests and our placeholders for the Hybrid classes can be found on our website, at https://www.gcpsk12.org/domain/13384

As you are making a decision about whether your student needs to choose the digital opt out because of COVID concerns, please consider the guidelines suggested in the GCPS email and the following information regarding classes at Collins Hill:

Classes such as the RISE program, JROTC, AP Computer Science A and performing arts (Band, Chorus, Orchestra, Dance, Drama) classes will be in person because of the nature of how learning is best achieved.

Once the district survey has closed, we will follow up about next year’s schedule and will confirm with all families, both in person and digital groups.

The Zoom link will be emailed out 30 minutes prior to the meeting on Monday, 3/29/21.
