Gwinnett County Public Schools is working closely with local and state health partners to monitor COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Our partners include the Gwinnett Health Department, Georgia Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the envent of cases being identified in our community, we would follow our public health partners' lead, implementing their recommendations. The school district has a response plan to support the health and safety of our students, staff, and community. In addition, we are following the guidance for schools issued by the CDC and Georgia Department of Health.
Please discuss the following with your child/children:
- Proper handwashing - The CDC indicates that both warm and cold water are effective. For more on this go to the CDC Website on Handwashing
- Not touching your face
- Covering your cough and sneeze
Our custodial staff has inspected all soap and paper towel dispensers to ensure they are in proper working order. They are also checking supplies frequently during the day. In addition, the custodians have reviewed proper cleaning and disinfecting procedures, paying close attention to high-touch surfaces (doorknobs, faucet handles, etc.)
Please remember that you should keep your student at home if he/she is sick. Students should not return to school until they have been fever-free for 24 hours.
If you would like more information about our schools' response, please go to the GCPS website. In addition, since this is a rapidly evolving situation, please refer to the Department of Public Health and the CDC for updates on COVID-19.
