8th Grade CogAT Testing

8th Grade CogAT Testing

Each year 8th grade students participate in the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) which measures students’ verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning abilities. The results of this test will help assess how well your child is performing and assist with plans to meet your child’s academic needs.

All in-person students will be participating in the 2020 administration of the CogAT assessment, which will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2020 beginning at 9:30 am.

We would like to extend the administration of the assessment to digital students as well.  To better help us with preparation for the assessment and ensure we have safety precautions in place for our students, please complete the survey that was emailed home by August 31, 2020.  For digital students who plan to participate in the CogAT assessment at Northbrook, please note the following:

  • Transportation will provided – GCPS transportation is available to bring students to school in the morning and bring them home from school after dismissal at 4:00 pm.
  • Students may also be picked up by a parent/guardian upon completion of the CogAT assessment around 11:30 am in the car rider lane at the back of the school.
  • Students choosing to remain in school after the CogAT assessment will have the option to purchase lunch and will attend their classes in-person for the remainder of the school day.
  • Students will be required to wear a mask while at school and are encouraged to bring a bottle of water.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the testing coordinator, Dora McKissock at 678-407-7136 or by email at dora.mckissock@gcpsk12.org
