Meet the NMS Counselors

MEET THE NMS COUNSELORS

Mrs. Gina Pomera

Welcome, students and parents! I am happy to introduce myself as the School Counselor for 6th Grade. I have been an educator for 18 years. This is my 13th year as a School Counselor, and my 4th year at Northbrook MS. Before becoming a Counselor, I was a 2nd grade teacher for 5 years in GCPS. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education, and two Master’s degrees. M.A. in Curriculum Instruction, and M.Ed in School Counseling.

I am passionate and dedicated to working with all students. I believe that every child is equipped with what it takes to be GREAT and am looking forward to helping students achieve just that.

On a personal note, my husband Patrick and I have four beautiful children. As a family we enjoy going to the park, taking walks in our neighborhood, and traveling. In my spare time I enjoy singing, and reading. I look forward to working with students and parents.  Please feel free to contact me via email or by phone with any questions or concerns you may have. Wishing everyone a great school year!

Ms. Hannah Mapes

Hello, Northbrook parents and students! I am excited to join the Northbrook team as the 7th Grade Counselor. My name is Hannah Mapes, and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker. I am also a proud graduate of the University of Georgia and received both my Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees from UGA. My area of concentration includes clinical therapy with children and families.

I previously worked for the state as a case manager and as a counselor in a variety of settings. My goal is to ensure all our students feel welcomed, safe, accepted so that, together, we can work through any challenges they are experiencing. I look forward to partnering with you all this year.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. I am here to help!

Ms. Sheron Jones

Hello, Northbrook family!  My name is Sheron Jones and I am the counselor for 8th grade students. I am delighted to support students in such a vital time in their young lives by welcoming them in a nurturing environment such as Northbrook. I aim to help them feel confident as they travel through their middle school journey.

Before becoming a counselor, I was a teacher in GCPS for 15 years.  I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-8) from the University of North Alabama and my Master of Science in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama.  As a counselor at Northbrook, I strive to serve students through various avenues such as small group counseling, guidance lessons, and individual lessons, provide them with the necessary tools to reach their highest potential, and become upstanding members of the community.  I look forward to supporting both students, parents, and staff members at Northbrook this year.
